Is Your Think Tank In A Virtual Skating Rink?

Posted on January 27, 2008 - Filed Under Arts and Entertainment

Never allow your wondering mind to sit idle, let it flow and gracefully move from topic to topic. There is always something to think about said the Vice President of the Online Think Tank in an interview recently. Think about what I asked. Well, the coordinator chimed in, think about books, reading material, current events, think about the flow of information. Think of it as an Olympic Skating Rink, not as a click happy slam and jam Hockey game.

Think about how information flows in your brain and how it flows around on the internet or how it flows from person to person in normal human interactions. Think about how libraries distribute information, newspapers or even book mobiles. For instance, maybe consider a Book Mobile on the Back of a Mule? Did you know that in many countries do not have libraries and there is no funds to build them, book mobiles in rural areas do not have the money to buy fuel and so some of the book mobiles are on the back of a mule. Sounds crazy, but it works and helps in educating the rural poor.

Reading and literacy are so much better than indoctrinating 9 and 10 year olds into guerilla armies and arming them with a machine gun. Speaking of which did you know that the US economic sanctions are not helping in Darfur, as Oil Wealth fuels the nation while the killing continues. What if the flow of information increased and people set aside their weapons and demanded peace? Could it happen or will people in those realities be lost in Plato’s Cave allegory forever staring at the deceptive flickering flame.

Speaking of caves and human catastrophe - What happens when rescue workers are in more danger than those they attempt to rescue, when do you move from rescue to recovery? Who decides and how are such tough calls justified, when human emotions run so high - Take for instance the Utah mining tragedy. With oxygen levels down so far are those miners still alive, the odds are so very low, does that mean we call off the search and hope? And what about in China with 172 miners trapped as the tunnel flooded, life there is not respected like it is in the US.

Sometimes mankind’s issues are very similar even when they are half a world away. Speaking of problems we all share what about pollution and human health? Is China coming clean with their anti-air-pollution laws, is it too little too late, will it solve the problems there, as human health takes its toll and nearly 750,000 deaths per year seem to be environmental pollution related.

And so the thought whirls round and round, as the Earth spins and the sun sets again. We are all in this together and together we must stand. Like a virtual skating rink as the characters, skaters or players spin and dance, it is time to give all the world another chance. Think on this.
