Loan Officers - Ever Think About What It Takes To Get Lucky In The Mortgage Business?

“That guy was sure lucky, he was in the right place at the right time. My business could be doing that much volume too if I were as lucky as him.”

Ever hear that phrase? I know I have. I used to be a Loan Officer that said it as well. I used to believe every Mortgage Broker that did well in this business was just lucky. After all, no one was doing the work I was and I wasn’t getting the same results.

In almost every industry, there are people that do well and are considered “lucky” by fellow workers AND competitors. What people don’t realize is that most of the time, “luck” isn’t something that happens, it’s worked for.

Trial and error has a lot to do with luck. Some Loan Officers have a lot more error than trial. Some give up way before they should and are never going to find the success they are seeking. Others learn from their mistakes and learn from it. Are they less lucky?

Then there is Expertise and Experience. Some Loan Officers try to do it all on their own. After all, the best teacher is Experience, right? Some LO’s get the experience on their own, others seek out folks that have done it and follow their leads. So, let me ask you, if you could piggy back off of someone elses experience (someone who is successfull), and follow what they did and you get great results from it, does that mean you’re lucky?

I’m sure there have been million dollar deals that have fallen in a brand new Loan Officer’s lap, but does that mean they are lucky? Some people may say yes, but is that duplicatable? Probably not.

The best way I found to be lucky is to follow what others have done and utilize their experience and expertise, throw in some self seeking knowledge and BINGO, instant Luck!
