Things to Ask About Apartments with Paid Utilities
Posted by Goody on 08/15/08 in Finance
Finding an apartment with paid utilities is great. It drastically reduces your overall cost of living. However, you want to be aware of any and all stipulations regarding payment of these utilities. Here are some questions to ask:
What exact utilities are paid for?
- You need to know precisely which utilities your apartment complex will pay for. Don’t assume anything.
Who directly pays for the utilities?
- You want to verify if your apartment complex reimburses for your utilities or if they pay for them directly.
Are the utilities in my name or the complexes name?
- Although the apartment complex pays for the utilities, they might require the utilities for your unit to be in your name.
Is there a maximum amount the apartment complex will pay?
- You need to ask if they will only pay for a certain amount of your utilities. There might be a maximum dollar amount they will only pay. Anything above that could be taken out of your pocket.
Are there any fees I need to pay?
- Although your apartment complex pays for your utilities, they might charge you a monthly maintenance fee or charge you for installation and/or any service calls.
If you find an apartment with paid utilities , be sure to ask the leasing office the above questions. It will help you get a clearer picture of exactly what’s involved.
