The last type of system, the grid tie with battery is the most effective as it produces its own power, has connection with the local power provider and comes with a backup battery that provides you with electricity in case of a power outage. The solar systems available these days have a long life time and dint need maintenance for some time. Mostly they have an average life of 20 years with major maintenance after 10 years.

Solar energy that is absorbed by the solar panel and stored in the battery is a DC power but most of the home appliances use AC power. In order to convert this power a device known as the inverter is used. The systems available these days come with this inverter and provide you with AC power. The effectiveness of these systems depends on the number of panels or arrays mounted, the exposure of the sun and most importantly the type of semiconductor used.
