As we all know, a project charter is a document issued by the project initiator or sponsor that formally authorizes the existence of a project, and provides the project manager with the authority to apply organizational resources to project activities.
All well and good. What does this mean. As Andy Crowe in his PMI PMP certification preparation book ,The PMP Exam, How to Pass On Your Fist Try, The Project charter makes the project manager “large and in charge. For those of us who manage projects on a day to day basis, that is no small responsibility. But, who grants the project manager authority? Let’s look at our orchestra example.

The iPhone
Apple has been growing in popularity at an exponential rate recently, and it’s all thanks to the iPod revolution that started around 5 years ago. Today, Apple’s stylish and innovative products have given the company a positive and exclusive image. Particularly the iBook series of laptops—which now have a 16% share of the laptop market in the United States.
Now, it’s time for another potential revolution. Apple has moved into the phone market! In mid 2007, Apple released their latest and most anticipated product—the iPhone. The iPhone is an iPod with phone functionality, or a phone with a built in iPod. Which ever way you look at it, it’s a marvellous product that everyone wants.
