When Is It Time To Move On?

Are you old enough to remember the good old days when careers practically managed themselves and there weren’t so many job-related decisions to make? Even if you are not, you probably did grow up with the notion that you would work in the same field for most if not all your career, and that you would have long tenures with one or just a few employers. However with American employees now working on average only 4.2 years in a job, many of us will make numerous stay-or-leave decisions over the course of our careers.

Reflection Catapults Your Strategic Plan Far Further Than You Realize

Strategic planning demands higher order thinking skills. One of these skills is reflection. By taking the time to look back and review past experiences, individuals can better project future outcomes.

Reflection is a proactive thought process. By taking the time to think and not just reacting to circumstances, individuals are not in much better control of their future behaviors. These planned future behaviors then dictate current behaviors.

Unfortunately, the quality of reflection necessary within the strategic planning process is not embraced by many people. This failure may be because of not knowing how or being conditioned not to think.
