People make the mistake of thinking that copywriting for the web is nothing different compared to basic article writing. This is not necessarily true. While the concepts may be similar, copywriting for the web has a lot of challenges and writers who want to have that edge should be able to face these head on. Below are six hidden secrets for would-be writers to advance with web copywriting:
1. Regularly read a lot of web content. This can help you gauge what writing style you should adopt. Also, you could have an idea of what type of writing style gets a lot of attention these days.
2. Always keep your audience in mind. Do you know who your target audience is? You should address what your potential readers want and like. Don’t just follow what your boss tells you to write.
3. Be clear and concise with your message. For you to effectively communicate, your message should be easy to grasp and should be direct to the point. Remember – avoid beating around the bush!
4. Conduct a research and study your competitors’ capacities and styles. This is especially beneficial if you’re still not sure whether or not you’re achieving your target number of readers or clicks. Compare your services and prices as to those offered by your competitors.
5. Work around keywords. If you really want to make sure that your work’s properly “indexed” by various search engines, your articles should have keywords. Search for the best keywords you ought to use in your articles and work around them.
6. Achieve the minimum word count and be aware of your article length. Web readers of today hardly have enough time to read a novel-like written piece. Hence, keep your sentences short but meaty.
